Soo here's my portrait of an event. Lindsay Perrine was the Director of Photography and she did a phenomenal job. I'm not terribly happy with my effort but here it is....
i liked the shoe shots. it was good to use four feet to show the two peope earlier instead of later. also, nice depth of field on the ecu of the chess pieces.
I love the 'show down' cowboy feel here over a chess game! Especially since he is playing himself! The set-up was awesome. It definitely worked well when it was clear this was the same person playing himself. I just wish you had prolonged the game a little bit to build up the tension between the players. But the use of close ups was extremely effective.
I loved the way you edited it to the music. The sequence of showing the main character getting ready for his ultimate chess game really developed the story. It was great working with you!
I liked how even after they sat down and the viewer realizes it's this intense chess match, you still go back to the shots of the toes tapping, which, in my opinion, just enhances the anticipation of the competition even more.
I liked the sort of "mirror" effect of having one guy play two people. I also liked how you carried the same sort of theme throughout the video, instead of just building up an epic showdown and then turning it into something else when it was revealed to be just a chess game.
should have uploaded it to vimeo...the video lost Quality

ReplyDeleteHmm...is that Ian? I like how, with the medium close up of the chess pieces, you got the mirroring of the board without any light reflecting back.
ReplyDeleteGood MCU's and CU shots with the boots, chest and end shots

ReplyDeleteI liked the contrast of color in the boots to symbolize the two different characters. Also the boot shots were cool with the shallow depth of field.
ReplyDeleteI really like the time it takes to really make the showdown aspect feel real. It's paced really nicely with the music.
